Racing Thoughts Keeping You Awake at Night?

Ways to quiet your mind and get some sleep.

Why is it when you are trying to fall asleep, every thought imaginable comes to mind? I often drift to sleep easily but wake up with racing thoughts about different things going on in my life. Sometimes the thoughts are trivial.

We’ve all been there, our minds racing and we just want to turn it off. We feel so much better mentally and physically if we are sleeping well. When I’m sleep-deprived, my brain doesn’t work as fast and I often feel tired by afternoon. We know there are several health benefits to getting good sleep but how do we quiet our mind and capture a full night’s rest?

Missing Out on Sleep Can be Dangerous for Our Health

First, if you realize how important sleep is for your well-being, you will be more likely to strive for solving your sleep issues. Research has shown sleep may be just as important as nutrition and exercise. According to Harvard Medical School, going without the appropriate amount of sleep over long periods of time can be considered a risk factor in the development of several types of health issues such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, increased inflammation, issues with immune functioning, and even a shortened lifespan.
