Do you ever think about who you were as a child or teenager? Do you remember the hopes, dreams, and confidence you had? If you feel like you’ve lost yourself along the way in life, you are not alone.
The truth is life beats us down and our journey takes unexpected turns. Life doesn’t go as planned. This can be good in some ways but a disappointment in other ways.
Some events happen in our life that causes us to reduce ourselves or pull back. This could be a divorce or relationship breakup, the loss of a loved one, an illness, or a job that depletes us. These types of things can cause us to lock up parts of ourselves. We pull back or proceed more cautiously. Perhaps these events steal some of our confidence.
On top of that, life can become so busy and chaotic that our focus is on a million things, and we lose ourselves while surviving day to day. But here’s the thing, this doesn’t have to be a permanent situation.
We can begin to reconnect to things that make us feel alive, things that make us feel like us. We don’t have to feel like life is this continuous routine that we show up for but get very little from.
