I’ve always considered myself an introvert. My job has required me to speak, lead, facilitate meetings, and communicate constantly. However, I still prefer working in small groups and one on one, like many introverts.

It took me a while to realize there are strengths in being an introvert. If you are an introvert always admiring the extroverts, take some time to recognize your strengths.

  • Introverts may be better at understanding others. Introverts are more observant. A study from Yale found that introverts may be better at understanding people and connecting with them. They are careful, reflective thinkers and this can make them good at relationships.
  • Deep thinkers and problem solvers. When an introvert tackles a problem, they often spend a great deal of time in thought, looking at multiple scenarios and points of view. Be careful, this can lead to overthinking. However, when an introvert solves a problem, you can rest assured they usually weren’t hasty about it.
  • Strong listening and communication skills. Introverts tend to spend a lot of time observing and listening. This gives them an advantage of thoroughly understanding a situation or problem. They also tend to be thoughtful in their written and verbal communication.
  • Can make good leaders
